I will not say I agree or disagree with out ...yes its totally personal habit and a matter of choice....and again I say ..if you come from the world were men and women are treated equally ...Great....i also come from the same world...But please try to see it from a wider point...still IN INDIA a girl child is killed in womb...still dowry deaths are common ..still beating of women is considered normal....still the lady in the house sleeps empty stomach ...still they are forced to prostitution ...still ITS TOUGH FOR  A WOMAN in this man world.....why is the murdere in Fiona case not highlited ..why her mother schronized....Why a woman without wedlock cannot deliver a child and is outcasted (u will say its not the fact) ..when the man equally responsible is not to be blamed at all ....why a rape victom is still considered a criminal and not the culprit himself.....why eve teasing is soooo common ....why a single man can survive easily in the world but its dead tough for a single woman......
I will not argue on points....my only thing is that please go out and see ..the world is not equal for both the genders .....still a SON being born will bring smile and a Daughter a worry on the face of parents (again not applicable to all but is there in society) .....
I wish the difference would not harm the genders ..difference should be there and is there in them ....but it should be taken positively and not destory the other...

I am here to criticise you write.Sorry as i am being very judgemental.First things first who are "we" here in your blog.I have seen rather been around girls who smoke,who abuse,girls who can even make a sadak chap romeo look mediocre while passing luke comments.I have witnessed that without any fuss.
                                                            I condemn the habbit of smoking whether it is a man or woman but then again it is the personal choice.I am not sure which world you live in but i have known a world who is so much similar to both the genders.

Yes if you talk about the dicretion that society shows while juging woman then i can start a debate here.I was scolded rather beaten badly at schools,canned at times,made to kneel down in assemblies and so were lots of my friends but never in my school or college life i ever encountered a situation when a girl was even slapped.They cud get away with murdering someone.

Point is clear Girls(Woman) are the sign of feminism.I am not sayin that it is the  way they are created.Men are bulls,hard,Strong,muscular again i am not the one saying that but nature has made them so.

So there has to be some difference how both genders should be treated,how both genders should behave.

I have seen so amny old ladies in my maternal village smoking bidis and noone make fuss about that.

You are right somewhere...fragrance of a woman ....which we cannot expect from a man ...But is that all .....the bad smell of a Cigarette  should not be the only reason for a change in someone's attitude to see a woman lightly .....But yes bad smell is definately a NO NO and a setback ....
Am totally with you on the advice of everyone QUIT SMOKING ...you don't look smart or more manly doing so....

i know, we all know the harmful effects.....its difficult but not impossible.....lets give a try atleast ..if not for ourselves atleast for the people around..the passive smokers are more harmed then active.....
why not a try to get rid of the BAD habit...don't tell me we are not that stronge..to keep aside!!!!!!!!!!

Smoking men and women do not attract me. I would like to advise them to quit smoking.
But  Ashjeet...you are right in asking why we feel bad when a woman smokes?
Because women have always been associated with fragrance, Fragrance of her shampood hair, jasmines and roses that she kept, or even traditionally the smell of her turmeric and kumkum paste........etc......to exggerate even the aroma that stayed in her dress due to cooking..... it is the mindset of men

Its not that I know only one woman who smokes...but yes definately the number is less....and you are right that can be one reason of noticing...
But ok ...let me clear the social isolation (not exactly, rather the opposite) that happens....the women consider them hooo....till then its ok ..the men consider them an easy target, loose character, easily or rather openly available kind of person .....that is the wrong side....women feeling bad does not harm her...but man's mentality and the approach towards her .....is not exactly dangerous but is not respectable also....this i am not saying in the air ....its with experience ....have seen the reaction of male members ........now again, Like Yash you might say its not the case in your circle ...its good to know ....But the circle other than your circle is BIG ...and that is the reason a mind change is required....something bad is bad....but the outlook....which makes the woman's reputation in the circle down just because of this .....has to change....her character should not be JUDGED on this .....is the issue!!

As is pointed out, Ashjeet knows only one woman who smokes. And according to her smoking is a bad habbit. So there is only one woman, among the flock known to Ashjeet, doing something bad and it is noticed. Why men are not noticed is because they are plenty in number. It is because of number only and there is no gender bias.  Does any woman face social isolation, just because she smokes. And mind you, it is noticed more by women, especially by those who do not smoke. It should be a matter of pride for women to say that majority of them are safe from a bad habbit. So stop cribbing and blaming men for everything, look at your strengths and good habbits. By the way, it is a well ariculated piece of document on a debatable issue.
